Christmas Open House at the Biedenharn Museum

The Biedenharn Museum & Gardens Christmas Open House is Thursday, December 6- Saturday, December 8 from 5-8 p.m. The museum features a home full of Christmas lights, decorations, and Christmas trees.

The Christmas spirit is in full swing at the Biedenharn Museum & Gardens. "It's kind of extra beautiful for us," says Director Ralph Calhoun. The Monroe Garden Study League, as well as museum employees, decorated the Biedenharn home and outdoor gardens the last week of November in preparation for the open house.

Biedenharn Museum features artist Don Cincone and the Images of Christ exhibit Tuesday, Nov. 13. Museum Director Ralph Calhoun takes guests on a journey through the Nativity story Thursday, November 15.

"An Evening with Don Cincone" looks the life, works, and faith of artist Don Cincone. The event reached capacity for attendees over a week in advance. Funded through a grant from the Northeast Louisiana Art Council, the artist talk focuses on the pieces by Cincone featured in the Images of Christ exhibit.

The Biedenharn Museum & Gardens is celebrating spring by opening a new exhibit, Images of Christ, and hosting several new events.

"Images of Christ" is a new major exhibit on display from March 22, 2018 to January 5, 2019. The exhibit features both two and three-dimensional depictions of Jesus created by artists of various national and ethnic origins. Artwork comes from museum collections and private collectors.  There are three public programs by outside scholars and multiple presentations concerning the exhibit by Museum Director Ralph Calhoun.

"Treasures of the Biedenharn Bible Collection" is Thursday, February 22 at 6 p.m. at the Biedenharn Museum and Gardens. The presentation discusses the highlights of the collection, including an Armenian manuscript from 1121 and a Second Edition King James Bible.

Biedenharn Celebrates Coca-Cola Week

Tuesday, October 10th, kicks off the second annual Coca-Cola Week at the Biedenharn Museum and Gardens. This week will be filled with coke related activities for all ages and special opportunities for visitors.

The Biedenharn Museum and Garden's will be holding its 27th annual Garden Symposium and Plant Sale the weekend of April 21st and 22nd. Friday, the 21st, will hold the symposium followed by the plant sale on the 22nd.

Biedenharn Opens a Page of the Great American Songbook

The Biedenharn Museum and Gardens is hosting the Great American Songbook in concert Saturday, November 4th at 7 p.m. The concert will feature Cory Trahan, Lisa Lee Phifer, and Richard Seiler, a local trio of ten years.

This Saturday's concert will be held to honor Tommy Usrey's retirement as President of the Northeast Louisiana's Arts Council. The trio will be performing some of their favorite American classics from Broadway and jazz to pop repertoire. 

Biedenharn Coca-Cola Museum

The Biedenharn Museum & Gardens celebrates Coca-Cola Week September 6-10. The festivities celebrate the 100th anniversary of the iconic hourglass Coca-Cola bottle.

          Coke Trails Talk - Larry Jorgenson

Jorgenson will be discussing his upcoming book about various Coke museums and public collections of the iconic brand in the Education Building located behind the Coke Museum. This program is free and open to the public.

 

Biedenharn Fountain Comes to Life

The Biedenharn Museum and Gardens hosts a truly unique event June 17 and 18. 

The Living Fountain presentation is a live performance art piece returning to the Biedenharn after nearly seven years. The event is part of the welcome home ceremony for the museum's own ELsong Maiden Fountain which has been under restoration since being damaged in the 2014 tornado.

"It's really a neat program," says Museum Director Ralph Calhoun, "It's beautiful. It's moving; it's the kind of thing you watch and you just get goose bumps."

Plant Sale and Sage Advice at Biedenharn

As many residents are beginning to reclaim their lawns and gardens from the receding floodwaters, the Biedenharn Museum and Gardens offers expertise and resources.

The museum hosts the 26th Annual Garden Symposium from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, April 22, followed by a plant sale on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Several guest speakers present at the symposium. This year features a talk by Neil Odenwald and Biedenharn horticulturist Frances Davidson. They will discuss container gardening, and the challenges of gardening within the confines of a smaller space.
