The Louisiana Supreme Court has announced the appointment of new members to its Technology Commission, a body focused on advancing technological innovation within the state judiciary. Justice-elect John Michael Guidry has been named Chair of the Commission, which includes judges from various levels of the judiciary and will serve from September 10, 2024, to September 9, 2026. The Commission is tasked with identifying technology needs, setting implementation goals, establishing best practices, and proposing rule changes to enhance the court system.
Justice-elect Guidry, who will take office on January 1, 2025, brings extensive experience to the role. A graduate of Louisiana State University and the Southern University Law Center, he has served in various legal and legislative roles, including as a judge on the First Circuit Court of Appeal since 1997, where he became the first African American Chief Judge in 2023.
The Technology Commission has made significant progress in modernizing Louisiana's courts, including rebuilding websites, enabling virtual court access, providing disaster recovery assistance, and offering technology training for judges. Recent accomplishments include supporting legislation for remote court proceedings and developing guidelines for their use. The Commission is also finalizing a manual on the use of Generative AI in judicial processes.
