Iraqi authorities say they have detained an official with the Islamic State group involved in inciting an attack in the United States that left more than a dozen people dead. The victims were celebrating the start of 2025 in New Orleans when they were rammed by a pickup truck that tore through the city's famed French Quarter. Police said a U.S. Army veteran drove the truck bearing a flag of the Islamic State group. He was shot and killed by police. Iraqi officials say they have detained a suspect who turned out to be a member of the Islamic State group’s foreign operations office.
