Head-On Crash In Licoln Parish Leaves One Man Dead

A Ville Platte man lost his life on Saturday, November 2 after being struck head-on by an 18-wheeler.

Elisha Ministries is hosting Understanding The Dynamics of Poverty this Wednesday, Oct. 16, from 8 am - 4 pm. The event will be held at the Ruston Civic Center in the Peach Suite on 401 Trenton St, Ruston.

The program being sponsored that day is a research-based poverty training to assist direct providers to understand and identify effective stratagies to support, encourage, and empower those affected to break the poverty cycle. The entrace fee is free to all that attend. 

Longtime Lincoln Parish sports reporter OK Buddy Davis passed away over the weekend at the age of 72. La Tech athletics director Tommy McClelland says Buddy Davis put Louisiana Tech athletics on the map with his stories that he began writing over five decades ago.

Davis also covered Eddie Robinson’s legendary football teams at Grambling State and received criticism for it, because he was a white man reporting on a historically black school.

A north Louisiana sheriff's deputy has resigned after he was accused of sexually abusing a child.

According to Louisiana State Police, 35-year-old Christopher Sparks was arrested Tuesday. Police say they picked up Sparks after the Lincoln Parish Sheriff's Office contacted the agency over a complaint concerning one of its own employees.

Students are heading back to class this morning after a tornado severely damaged parts of a public university in northern Louisiana.

Louisiana Tech University says on its Twitter feed that the school is open and classes will be held today. The university was hit by an EF3 tornado on Thursday.

The tornado was part of a system of severe weather that caused storms and tornadoes from eastern Texas into northern Louisiana. The university says students who have extenuating circumstances that make it hard for them to return to campus should contact their professor or supervisor.

The National Weather Service has  3 damage survey teams out in the field today. They will be working to assess the damage from last night's storms and determine tornado intensity where damage has occurred. The main area of interest is the roughly 150-mile storm track from near San Augustine, Texas, northeastward to Union Parish, Louisiana.


2 Killed In Ruston Tornado

It’s a grim scene in Ruston today. A tornado hit the city around 2:15 a.m. causing widespread damage. According to initial reports, the storm caused two casualties near Interstate-20.

National Weather Service  had been tracking the storm from the Texas - Louisiana Border.

Spread The Love Peanut Butter Drive

The Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana is kicking off their 3rd annual area-wide peanut butter drive to benefit children, families and seniors who face hunger in Northeast Louisiana. Hunger is a big issue in our community, with over 71,000 people in NELA struggling to put food on the table for their families. Peanut butter is a much needed staple as it is a protein-packed food that kids love.

Congressman Ralph Abraham, gave a speech on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives to honor the life and service of Ruston resident Adolf "Wes" Wesselhoeft.

Wesselhoeft was born in the United States to German immigrants. During World War II, he and his family were moved to a German internment camp, similar to those of Japanese and Italian Americans. Wesselhoeft's family was eventually traded to the Germans for American POWs, and they survived Allied bombings after being sent to Germany.


Tropical Depression Gordon will shift north of the area today but decent rain chances will continue. Temperatures will be in the upper 80's with the threat for flash flooding remaining for upper portions of the ArkLaMiss Delta through the day today.
