Nungesser Avows Greater Input On Tourism

nola.com

Lieutenant Governor candidate Billy Nungesser says there needs to be equal representation from communities across the state when it comes to enhancing tourism.

"They deserve a seat at the table and how we're spending the tourism money.  We're not just going to throw it at certain events in the big cities," says Nungesser.

The former Plaquemines parish president stopped by for a visit at the West Monroe-West Ouachita Chamber of Commerce Tuesday.

He toured the Antique Alley area and discussed the importance of downtown revitalization efforts.  Nungesser, a Republican, believes projects that partner communities and business are essential to attract visitors.  "With budget problems, we're going to have to look at private-public partnerships and make sure we put our best foot forward," he said.

Nungesser, who failed in a previous campaign for lieutenant governor, is currently running against fellow Republican and Jefferson Parish President John Young and Democratic Baton Rouge Mayor Kip Holden.

Republican State Senator Elbert Guillory is a potential fourth candidate.  Guillory, of Opelousas, has expressed interest, but not officially announced his candidacy for lieutenant governor.
