Northeast Delta HSA to host Drug Take-Back event on April 30

Northeast Delta Human Services Authority (NEDHSA) will host a prescription drug take-back event on Saturday, April 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in multiple locations throughout Northeast Louisiana.

NEDHSA will have teams stationed at Super 1 Foods, 2211 E. Madison Ave., Bastrop, LA; Spring Market, 120 Legends Ave., Grambling, LA; and NEDHSA Family Life Center, 2525 Ferrand St., Monroe, LA.

NEDHSA Executive Director Dr. Monteic A. Sizer said, “Take Back Day events are important because it helps us address our opioid crisis, allows us to reach the underserved in rural and urban areas, and it gives us an opportunity to share lifesaving prevention and treatment information to people living in our region.”

“Helping keep our communities safe by disposing of unwanted, unused, and expired medications is just one of many ways we are working to break the cycle of addiction and substance use disorder in our region,” Dr. Sizer said. “We know that to truly reduce the prevalence of substance use disorder, we must tackle regional negative social determinants of health, and combine our primary, secondary, and tertiary health solutions.”

This event allows NEDHSA’s Opioid Misuse and Abuse Prevention Program team to educate the community about the risks of abuse of prescription, and over-the-counter medications left unsecured in the home. NEDHSA will accept pills, patches, and liquids, but cannot accept needles, sharps, or aerosols. This service is free and confidential, with no questions asked.

Other locations individuals can properly dispose of prescription drugs are East Carroll Parish Sheriff's Office, Grambling Police Department, Tallulah Police Department, Tensas Parish Sheriff's Office, Monroe Police Department, ULM Police Department, Richwood Municipal Building, and Jonesboro Police Department.
