The Natchez Historical National Park celebrates the 99th birthday of the National Park Service Tuesday.

The Natchez site features the Melrose Estate, the William Johnson home, and the French Fort Rosalie.  "We are really here to tell the history and story of the town," say Park Superintendent Kathleen Bond.

The park is located at the base of the Natchez Trace Parkway.  Bond says the celebration welcomes guests from across the region for special activities, including the viewing of decorative stone painting recreated on the stucco portions of the Melrose mansion.

Tours of the newly replanted fruit orchard are available and visitors can see original carriages on display in the carriage house.  In honor of the 99th birthday on Tuesday, guests can tour the Melrose house free of charge.
