Pineville Hospital Considered For National Register

lsuhschistory.org

The National Park Service is expected to decide soon whether to make the closed Huey P. Long Medical Center a historic building..

A decision could come by next month on whether the building should be added to the National Register of Historic Places.

The National Park Service is taking public comment now on the significance of the building.

In April, a state review panel unanimously endorsed adding the medical building to the National Register and sent its recommendation to the National Park Service.

The Pineville hospital, which officially opened in October 1939, was shut down on June 30, 2014, as part of the state's privatization of the charity health-care system.

The state has not said what the future might hold for the building.
