Baton Rouge, La. (December 31, 2025) — The Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) today released the state’s most popular baby names for 2025, with Noah and Amelia leading the rankings.
Provisional birth certificate data from the Center for Vital Records and Statistics shows 214 boys were named Noah, making it the top name for boys, while 191 girls were named Amelia, earning the top ranking for girls.
The top five names for boys were Noah, Liam, James, John, and Elijah, while the top five for girls included Amelia, Charlotte, Olivia, Emma, and Eleanor. The full top 10 lists reflect naming trends across Louisiana and provide insight into the choices of parents statewide.
“Every name represents a new life brought into the world with the promise of a bright future,” said Governor Jeff Landry. “We are proud to celebrate Louisiana’s growing families and the next generation of our state.”
LDH Secretary Bruce Greenstein emphasized the broader significance of birth records:
“Birth records are more than administrative documents; they reflect the care and support provided during a healthy pregnancy and birth,” Greenstein said. “LDH is committed to supporting families and ensuring that every birth is properly documented and celebrated.”
Darlene Smith, Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Center for Vital Records and Statistics, noted the significance of compiling and sharing annual name data:
“Our team works diligently to maintain accurate birth records, and releasing these rankings provides a meaningful snapshot of Louisiana’s newest residents,” Smith said.
Evelina Broussard, Chief Information Officer for the Office of Technology Services, highlighted the role of technology in preserving vital records:
“Accurate and timely recording of births, marriages, and deaths is essential to supporting families during some of life’s most important moments,” Broussard said.
The 2025 rankings are based on provisional birth certificate data collected statewide and reflect the evolving trends in Louisiana families.
