A mosquito sample collected in Ruston has tested positive for West Nile Virus. The positive test result was confirmed on Thursday for a sample taken on Tuesday, Aug. 12, in the Tanglewood area near the corner of Audubon Drive and North Trenton Street. This marks the third positive pool identified this year, with previous samples taken on Aug. 5 later testing negative upon re-sampling.
In response, the city plans enhanced inspection, sampling, and control measures around the collection site. Additionally, VDCI personnel will distribute educational materials to local residents, advising them on personal protection and yard sanitation practices to mitigate infection risks. Evening spraying will be conducted in the affected area to further reduce mosquito activity. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and take preventive measures as efforts to address the heightened risk continue.
