ULM Gerontology Collaborates With Alzheimer's Association For National Webinar Series

The University of Louisiana Monroe Gerontology Program is offering a four-part national educational webinar series on Alzheimer's disease, in collaboration with and sponsored by the Louisiana Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.

The webinars will be available to audiences in Louisiana and other states.

Alzheimer's disease has reached epidemic proportions in the United States, according to ULM Gerontology program Director Anita Sharma, Ph.D., LCSW.

An estimated 5.8 million Americans age 65 and older are living with Alzheimer's dementia in 2020. Eighty percent are age 75 or older. One in 10 people age 65 and older (10 percent) has Alzheimer's disease.

Sharma will be presenting the webinars.

"Our Gerontology Program has this wonderful opportunity to reach out to a national audience through our partnership with the Louisiana Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association to educate people about Alzheimer's disease," Sharma said. "Any dementia is a traumatizing medical condition that gradually robs the patient of their own identity. It causes major stress and emotional trauma to the loved ones and caregivers of the dementia patient."

The webinars will be via Zoom, and registration is mandatory. To register and to receive the Zoom link, email Sharma at asharma@ulm.edu

For more information, call Sharma at 318-342-1409 or email asharma@ulm.edu
