The University of Louisiana at Monroe welcomed a new Director of Police Wednesday.

Tom Torregrossa comes to the ULM department after serving for 36 years with the Monroe Police Department.

He says he’s begun to implement steps in creating stronger relationships with the campus community.  "We've already started with our community policing strategy on campus.  We're getting out meeting students, listening to them.  But more importantly,  having students approach us."

Torregrossa replaces Steve Mahon, who left the department last month.  Torregrossa was sworn in along with fourteen officers and four dispatchers during the ceremony.
