"RENT" Brings Message of Hope in Dark Times

The musical RENT brings a message of hope and acceptance from New York’s East Village as a group of artists struggle for significance in the era of HIV/AIDS.

“It’s about love. It’s about loss. It’s about finding things. It’s about living in the moment. It’s very inspirational. It’s a love story,” says Director Robin Stephens, associate professor of Dance in ULM's School of Visual and Performing Arts.

Art Crawl at ULM Brings New Voices

The University of Louisiana at Monroe’s Spring Art Crawl brings together the works of students, faculty and local artists.

Arely Castillo, coordinator of marketing for the ULM College of Arts, Education and Sciences explains that following the success of last year’s event, the college decided to expand the event. This year it begins at 5:00 Thursday February 17, and features even more galleries and exhibits.

South Pacific is an old-time, yet modern love story. It's similar to Romeo and Juliet. Girl meets boy. They fall in love, but their love is forbidden. Love is forbidden due to deeply held prejudices.  Strauss Theatre Center presents Rodgers and Hammerstien's South Pacific: In Concert with the Monroe Symphony Orchestra.

Dr. James Boldin, associate professor of music at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, recently published “Solo Duet Training for Horns,” a collection of instructive duets for the French horn.

“Duet playing is a traditional component of music instruction, because it encourages students to emulate the tone, style, and phrasing of a more experienced player,” said Boldin.
