Today, Gov. John Bel Edwards ordered flags to be flown at half-staff over the State Capitol and all public buildings until sunset on Thursday, May 28, 2020, as an expression of respect for Louisiana State Police Trooper George Baker who died from injuries sustained in the line of duty. Trooper Baker is survived by his wife Heather, daughter Harper, his parents, sisters, and extended family.

Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser's office is holding nine meetings across the state in April and May to help choose locations for a new Louisiana Civil Rights Trail.

Nungesser's office oversees state tourism efforts. It says the trail is planned to tell the story of Louisiana's role in the civil rights movement.

The nine meetings start April 22 in New Orleans and Hammond. They continue in Lafayette, Opelousas, Alexandria, Thibodaux, Monroe, Shreveport and Lake Charles through May 22.

The deadline to complete the Restore Louisiana Homeowner Assistance Program survey is this Friday, Oct. 19, 2018. This is the last opportunity for homeowners impacted by the March and/or August 2016 floods to request assistance from the program, as the program will be unable to consider anyone who has not submitted a survey by the deadline.

State Police charge a Hammond man with vehicular negligent homicide as result of a crash on I-12 near Covington that killed a one-month old child. Senior Trooper Dustin Dwight says 62-year-old Erroll Nugent missed his exit to Highway 190 and instead of turning around at the next exit, he tried a U-Turn through the grassy median.

Dwight says, "When he attempted to reenter I-12, he pulled directly in the path of an 18-wheeler which struck the rear of his vehicle."

We will find out Sunday if two movies filmed in Louisiana will win an Oscar.  Mudbound was filmed in New Orleans and rural St. James Parish, while Logan was filmed in several locations including Amite, Ferriday, Hammond and New Orleans. Louisiana Entertainment Executive Director Chris Stelly says these projects had far reaching impacts in the state’s economy.

Typically, movies that are nominated get a second life after their initial release. Stelly says this puts Louisiana on the silver screen to many more fans.
