West Monroe Appoints Buxton to Board of Aldermen

Morgan Lowe Buxton has been appointed to the City of West Monroe Board of Aldermen.

Buxton was appointed to fill the unexpired term of Sonny Bennett, who recently announced his retirement as an Alderman after 45 years of service. Buxton was nominated to serve in the role of Alderman by West Monroe Mayor Staci Mitchell, and the decision was unanimously approved by the Board of Aldermen at the April 9 meeting.

A City of West Monroe resident, Buxton currently serves as the Communications and Community Engagement Manager for Chase Mortgage Center in Monroe. She is a member of the West Monroe-West Ouachita Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, a 2018 graduate of Leadership Ouachita, a 2018 NELA Top 20 Under 40 Awardee and is an active community volunteer with Habitat for Humanity of Ouachita Parish, United Way and the Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana.

Buxton will assume her duties as Alderman after taking an oath of office, following the official issuance of her commission by the La. Secretary of State. She will serve in that role until an election can be held to fill the seat. During the April 9 meeting, the West Monroe Board of Aldermen voted to call for a special election in October 2019 to fill the seat.
