PETER SAGAL, HOST:
I want to remind everyone to join us most weeks back at the Chase Bank Auditorium in Chicago, Ill. For tickets and more information go to wbez.org, or you can find a link at our website waitwait.npr.org. Right now, panel, it is time for you to answer some questions about this week's news. Tom, this week, Starbucks shocked their customer base by announcing they would no longer allow guests to do what?
TOM BODETT: Holy smokes. They would no longer allowed guests to talk loudly. I need a hint.
SAGAL: No. No more triple-X-pressos (ph).
BODETT: Oh, no. They can't access porn sites.
SAGAL: That's exactly right.
(SOUNDBITE OF BELL)
BODETT: Wow.
(LAUGHTER)
PAULA POUNDSTONE: How do they know what they're accessing? What does your barista, like, come over and look at your computer - what you're typing?
BODETT: No. They can put a filter on the thing. Like, schools do that. You know, they block porn sites.
SAGAL: Well, that's...
POUNDSTONE: I'll bet that works very effectively.
BODETT: Yeah.
SAGAL: Yeah. Well, that's...
(LAUGHTER)
SAGAL: So Starbucks is going to start using these filters to keep people from using their Wi-Fi to look at adult sites. Customers objected because now the only place they'll be able to easily access pornography is literally everywhere else.
(LAUGHTER)
POUNDSTONE: School.
BODETT: Well, it's true. I mean, when I have a problem on the internet or something with my computer, I go to my 12-year-old son to fix it. I mean, so if I needed to get around a porn filter, I would go to my 12-year-old.
(LAUGHTER)
SAGAL: You would - would you want him to know how?
BODETT: No. No. I'm just - that's just a - for example.
SAGAL: I understand.
(LAUGHTER)
SAGAL: This is in response, apparently, to concerns from various groups that too much porn can desensitize people. It is true. Recent studies show that 95 percent of Starbucks customers are now unable to become aroused unless Norah Jones is playing softly in the background.
(LAUGHTER)
SAGAL: McDonald's also announced this week they're joining this. They're going to do the same thing - can't use their Wi-Fi for adult purposes. Hamburglar can finally take off that trench coat.
(LAUGHTER)
POUNDSTONE: I'm not sure why you would come down on the side of the Hamburglar.
(LAUGHTER)
SAGAL: He is a career criminal.
POUNDSTONE: Honestly, I've said this before, but it's true. I've always, you know, of the Grimace, the Hambuglar and Mayor McCheese, I've always admired Mayor McCheese because that is in elected office.
(LAUGHTER)
SAGAL: Right.
(SOUNDBITE OF SONG, "ONE CUP OF COFFEE")
BOB MARLEY: (Singing) One cup of coffee, then I'll go, though I just dropped by to let you...
SAGAL: Coming up, we do puzzles, but without that embarrassing WEEKEND EDITION lapel pin. It's Bluff the Listener. Call 1-888-WAIT-WAIT to play. We'll be back in a minute with more of WAIT WAIT... DON'T TELL ME from NPR. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
