Panel Round 1

PETER SAGAL, HOST:

We want to remind everyone to join us most weeks at the Chase Bank Auditorium in Chicago, Ill., where we stand right now. For tickets and more information, go to wbez.org. Or you can find a link at our website. That's waitwait.npr.org. Right now panel, it is time for you to answer some questions about this week's news. Tom, not even two months after the death of Justice Scalia, George Mason University renamed their law school after him. But they had to change the first version of that name - the Antonin Scalia School of Law. Why?

(LAUGHTER)

TOM BODETT: There's a word puzzle in there.

SAGAL: Yeah.

(LAUGHTER)

BODETT: Oh, it's the ASSOL building.

SAGAL: Yeah.

(LAUGHTER)

SAGAL: Because it spelled out A-S-S-O-L, which is, as...

BODETT: Yeah.

SAGAL: ...You say - doesn't sound like a very nice thing...

BODETT: Yeah.

SAGAL: ...To say about the law school or Antonin Scalia.

(SOUNDBITE OF BELL)

BODETT: Right.

SAGAL: There hasn't been a screw up like this in higher education since the naming of the Fordham University College of Kinesiology.

(LAUGHTER)

SAGAL: George Mason University officials were embarrassed once observers pointed out the error. And they changed the name. This is true - it's now the Antonin Scalia Law School. Or if you pronounce that, it's this ASLS.

(LAUGHTER)

SAGAL: Their mascot, of course, is the chaps.

(LAUGHTER, APPLAUSE)

PETER GROSZ: (Imitating British accent) It'd be like a bunch of British fellows.

SAGAL: (Imitating British accent) Yes, yes chaps.

GROSZ: (Imitating British accent, singing) We are the ASLS Chaps. I'm a...

SAGAL: A cappella group.

(APPLAUSE)

GROSZ: (Imitating British accent, singing) We are the ASLS Chaps. Oh now I see what's going on now actually.

(SOUNDBITE OF MUSIC)

SAGAL: Coming up, we try our hand at some car talk in an automotive-themed Bluff The Listener game. Call 1-888-WAIT-WAIT to play. We'll be back in a minute with more WAIT WAIT... DON'T TELL ME from NPR. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
