Man Arrested Over Failing to Return VHS Rental

LINDA WERTHEIMER, HOST:

The idea of going out to rent a movie now seems as laughable as a doctor's house call - a far-off, distant memory of bygone age, a simpler time when good etiquette demanded one should always rewind the tape before returning it.

Well, one North Carolina man found himself on the wrong side the law when he was arrested for failing to return a VHS tape he rented more than a dozen years before. James Myers was pulled over for a broken tail light and there was an outstanding warrant. He took to YouTube to explain.

JAMES MYERS: The guy brings me to the back of the car and he goes sir, I don't know how to tell you this but there's a warrant for your arrest from 2002. Apparently you rented a movie, "Freddy Got Fingered," and you never returned it.

WERTHEIMER: The comedy "Freddy Got Fingered" starred Tom Green and won five Razzie awards, including worst picture. Myers faces a class 3 misdemeanor and a fine which could be as high as $200. A silver lining, though - the New York Daily News contacted Tom Green, who told the paper that if the fine was 200 bucks, of course I'll pay it for him, just for the principle of the thing.
