Discrimination Case Against Two Polygamist Towns Goes To Trial

The United States Department of Justice lawsuit against the towns of Hildale, Utah, and Colorado City, Colorado, goes to trial this week in Phoenix.

The trial will likely reveal some of the secret inner workings of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (FLDS), which broke away from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the Mormon Church) and still practiced polygamy.

The lawsuit accuses the town governments of discriminating against non-members of the FLDS. Jude Joffe-Block, senior filed correspondent at KJZZ in Phoenix, tells Here & Now’s Robin Young about the case.
