Rep. Paul Ryan weighing nomination for House Speaker

The possibility of Rep. Paul Ryan to lead the U.S. House of Representatives as its next speaker has several new lawmakers hopeful for change.

Rep. Ralph Abraham (R-La. 5) says Ryan's move into the Speaker's position could broaden consideration for committee bills to advance.  "He has stated that he will allow committee chairmen to dictate more of the legislation that is brought up for debate," said Abraham.

Abraham says it is a positive move for freshmen lawmakers.  One issue new House members have had with Rep. John Boehner is that their measures were often never introduced on the floor due to senior leadership items that would take precedence.

Abraham also shares on House efforts to see reconciliation legislation move forward in the Senate.  "We're trying to bring this item to where 51 votes in the Senate will advance it, but ensure that it will not be philibustered," he said.
