Businessman Stewart Cathey, Jr. is a candidate for Senate District 35.
Cathey says he wants to bring jobs back to the district. "When I returned after serving in Afghanistan, alot of the friends I had, had left because there was just no opportunity here." He believes budget reform and education reform can help bring jobs back to region.
Cathey does not support Medicaid expansion, but would rather see a push toward public-private partnership. He cites the model the state of Arkansas has put together. "Let's expand coverage for people, but not be beholden to the federal government," he said.
