After several weeks of consideration, Dr. Ray Armstrong announced Monday that he will run for mayor of Monroe.

Armstrong, who earlier this year announced he would not seek re-election to his city council seat, has decided to make another run at the city’s top job.

The retired physician began his political career in 2012, when he first ran for mayor.  Armstrong lost to Jamie Mayo in a runoff.

Armstrong says he has received calls from residents across Monroe supporting his work on the council.  He says as mayor, he would bring better use of limited resources and more primary jobs to the city.
