Abraham Hopes Debate Highlights Border Security

U.S. Congressman Dr. Ralph Abraham (R-La. 5) looks forward to learning more about how the Republican presidential candidates seek to address border security in tonight's televised debate.

"The border situation certainly affects Louisiana in a big way.  Immigrants are a large part of the economy in Louisiana," Abraham said.

He says the state's agriculture sector has a significant number of immigrant workers.  "Let's just look at our H-2B workers that help in farming.  We want legal workers here, it is the illegal ones here that we have a problem with."

The immigration issue sparked a great deal of conversation in recent weeks, after Donald Trump made controversial remarks about immigrants coming to the United States.  Abraham feels it will be interesting to see how Trump position himself with other top candidates in this evening's forum.

"We want to see how he (Trump) reacts to criticism that we know has been thrown at him," said Abraham.

The debate, hosted by Fox News, is in Cleveland, Ohio.  It airs beginning at 8 p.m.
