On Saturday, November 14th, the Boy Scouts of America set off to collect food donations across Northeast Louisiana to replenish the Food Bank. Scout troops ask the public to join and participate in their Food drive. The Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana is a non-profit hunger-relief organization that provides food, advocacy, education, and disaster response to the 12 parishes of Northeast Louisiana.
Local Scout troops from the Louisiana Purchase Council will drop off empty donation bags at the doorsteps of homes across the community on Saturday, November 7th. Residents are encouraged to fill the bags with non-perishable food items and place them outside their front door by 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 14th. Scouts will then collect donations from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
“Our food drive inventory is running low, making this an important time for the community to come together and help replenish our shelves,” said Jean Toth, Executive Director of the Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana. “We’re very grateful to the local Scouts for their efforts and hard work, and we encourage everyone to participate in this year’s food drive.”
The most needed Food Bank items are soups, meals, and proteins in a can, as well as plastic jars of peanut butter (no glass containers). All non-perishable food items are gladly accepted.
If someone would like to help but can’t donate food, monetary donations are accepted online at foodbanknela.org/donate. With every $1 donated, the Food Bank can provide enough food for 3 meals.
