On October 26, 2026, United States District Judge S. Maurice Hicks sentenced Kentravious C. Kennedy, 20, of Shreveport, to 46 months in federal prison for Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition by a Convicted Felon, followed by three years of supervised release.

According to court documents, on November 2, 2025, officers with SPD responded to a shooting at a local intersection and identified Kennedy as a suspect. Officers obtained consent to search his mother’s residence and discovered a DPMS Panther Arms A 15 rifle, an ISSC M22 pistol, multiple loaded magazines, and ammunition. The rifle contained a sixty-round magazine. Photos on Kennedy’s social media accounts showed him posing with firearms that matched the ones recovered. Kennedy admitted he had a previous felony conviction and could not legally possess a firearm.

Judge Hicks sentenced Jayden Jamond Smith, 20, of Bossier City, to 20 months in federal prison for Illegal Possession of a Machine Gun, followed by three years of supervised release.

According to court documents, on February 8, 2025, Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office (BPSO) deputies responded to reports of machine gun fire. Deputies recovered camera footage capturing the sound of automatic gunfire and later also obtained camera footage from nearby businesses. The footage identified an orange Dodge Charger involved in the incident. Detectives were able to identify a partial license plate number and linked the vehicle to a local high school student who admitted picking up Smith that day. The student said that Smith had possessed a Glock equipped with a machine gun conversion device (switch) and had wanted to fire it. The student said that after he and Smith drove around, they stopped, and Smith fired several automatic rounds into wooded areas between houses. Deputies obtained the student’s phone through his consent and uncovered video of Smith firing the weapon in automatic mode, along with text messages between the two discussing the weapon’s performance.

On October 29, 2026, Hicks sentenced Marvaeya M. Anderson, of Shreveport, to 180 months in federal prison for Possessing a Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute and for Possessing a Firearm in Furtherance of a Drug Trafficking Crime, followed by four years of supervised release.

According to court documents, on October 12, 2025, a Shreveport Police Department patrol officer attempted to traffic-stop a black Dodge Challenger. The vehicle fled, leading officers to pursue it at high speed through a residential area until it crashed. The passenger, who was later identified as Anderson, fled on foot across a field, over a fence, and then crossed all lanes of I-20 before finally being apprehended. A subsequent search of Anderson’s vehicle revealed a plastic grocery bag that contained approximately 196 grams of methamphetamine, 20.9 grams of crack cocaine, a digital scale, a handgun, and two cell phones. Anderson later admitted the narcotics were for his personal use. Anderson is a previously convicted felon prohibited from possessing a firearm.
