Open Enrollment for health insurance coverage began November 1, giving Louisianans the opportunity to enroll in or make changes to their coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplace for the coming year.
If you enroll in a plan by December 15, coverage will begin January 1. Those who wait until the final deadline of January 15 will have coverage beginning February 1.
“Finding the right health insurance plan begins with understanding your options and making informed decisions about your coverage,” Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple said.
“Take time to explore your options and ensure you choose a plan that fits your health care needs.”
Health insurers offering individual marketplace plans in Louisiana for 2027 are: Ambetter Health of Louisiana, AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana, CHRISTUS Health Plan, Louisiana Blue, and UnitedHealthcare Insurance Company.
Review your options. Plans and premiums can change each year. This year has included significant federal changes, resulting in premium increases and alterations to plan offerings.
It is important to review the options offered in your area and ensure your plan selection includes your doctors and suits your health needs.
Contact an agent. A licensed health insurance agent can help you understand your options, answer questions and determine if you qualify for a premium tax credit.
Meet deadlines. If you enroll in a plan by December 15, your coverage will begin Jan. 1, 2027. If you enroll after December 15 but by the final deadline of January 15, your coverage will begin Feb. 1, 2027.
If you do not elect coverage by January 15, you will be unable to get an individual marketplace plan unless you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period due to a qualifying life event.
