The Louisiana State Museum and the Louisiana Museum Foundation will host the grand opening of their newest exhibition, Sportsman’s Paradise: A Louisiana State Museum Exhibition Celebrating Conservation, on Thursday, November 5, 2026.

Debuting as the centerpiece of the annual Founders Ball fundraising gala at The Cabildo in New Orleans, this major exhibition traces the state's deep-rooted outdoor heritage and sporting legacy.

Visitors will be able to explore the historical evolution of habitat stewardship along the critical Mississippi Flyway, highlighting Louisiana's vital role in preserving North America's wetlands, waterways, and diverse wildlife communities.

The exhibition, which runs through summer 2028, features a rich array of historic artifacts, including original artwork by John James Audubon and George Viavant, early 20th-century photographs, and locally crafted duck decoys. Supported by title sponsor Ducks Unlimited, the showcase highlights over nine decades of conservation leadership and local habitat protection.

Proceeds from the Founders Ball gala will directly fund the exhibition's creation and support ongoing educational programming, including student field trips, public lectures, and community learning resources throughout the display's multi-year run at The Cabildo.

Sportsman’s Paradise: A Louisiana State Museum Exhibition Celebrating Conservation opens to the public on Friday, November 6.
