ZenTech Concrete Solutions advances materials with FUEL help

ZenTech Concrete Solutions, winner of Future Use of Energy in Louisiana’s (FUEL) 2025 Super Pitch Competition, is advancing by improving their materials.

ZenTech Concrete Solutions founded by Hassan Noorvand is an LSU spinout developing practical concrete repair and overlay materials based on engineered cementitious composites (ECC) technology. The company is working to transition years of materials research into a prepackaged system that can be produced consistently and used effectively in real-world repair and infrastructure applications.

"Hassan has combined strong technical expertise with a clear vision for commercializing this technology,” said Stephen Loy, FUEL Director of Technology Commercialization. “Moving a technology from the lab to the marketplace requires both technical excellence and persistence, and Hassan has shown both the commitment and the entrepreneurial mindset needed to take that next step. This award will help advance a solution with the potential to improve transportation infrastructure while strengthening Louisiana’s growing community of innovation-driven startups.”

Engineered cementitious composites (ECC), known as “bendable concrete,” can form numerous tightly controlled microcracks rather than the larger cracks formed in conventional brittle concrete. This behavior provides greater ductility and improved crack control, with the potential to extend the service life of concrete repairs and overlays. ZenTech is adapting this technology for practical repair and thin-overlay applications. By potentially reducing the frequency of repairs and replacement, ZenTech’s technology could also reduce the associated use of materials and energy.

“FUEL has helped us move from years of LSU research toward a practical technology that can be produced, tested and applied in real infrastructure projects,” said Hassan Noorvand, founder of ZenTech Concrete Solutions. “Our primary goal is to improve crack resistance and durability, while also exploring how locally available materials and agricultural byproducts such as bagasse ash can make advanced cementitious materials more practical and sustainable. The mentorship, industry connections and commercialization support from FUEL are helping us turn that research into a real business based in Louisiana.”
