Louisiana Insurance Commissioner advises Medicare recipients to review their coverage

Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple reminds Medicare beneficiaries to review their coverage during the annual Open Enrollment Period, which runs from Thursday, October 15th through Monday, December 7th, 2026.

Any changes made during this window will take effect on January 1st, 2027. During Open Enrollment, beneficiaries have the opportunity to switch from Original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage Plan (or vice versa), change from one Medicare Advantage Plan to another, and enroll, switch, or drop a Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plan.

“Medicare beneficiaries should take time during Open Enrollment to review changes to their coverage, including premiums, benefits, provider networks, and prescription drug costs, because a plan that worked well this year may not be the best fit for next year,” said Commissioner Temple. “Our LaSHIP counselors are here to help consumers make informed decisions about the Medicare coverage that best meets their individual needs.”

Beginning in 2027, the Medicare Part D annual deductible will be $700, and out-of-pocket costs for covered prescription drugs will be capped at $2,400. During Open Enrollment, review your medications to see whether any are included in the Medicare drug price negotiation program, compare how each plan will cover your medications, and determine what your estimated out-of-pocket costs will be in 2027.
