The Louisiana Department of Health congratulates Baton Rouge pharmacist T.J. Woodard, PharmD, on being named the 2026 National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) Willard B. Simmons Independent Pharmacist of the Year.

Woodard, owner of "Prescriptions to Geaux", which has two Baton Rouge locations, received the award during NCPA's Annual Convention in Kansas City, Missouri. The annual award recognizes a pharmacist who demonstrates exemplary professional leadership, service to the community, and commitment to independent pharmacy.

“This national recognition is a tremendous honor for T.J. and another example of the exceptional people we have right here in Louisiana,” said Governor Jeff Landry. “T.J. has built his career and his business around serving his community, and now that work is being recognized across the country. We are proud to see a Louisiana pharmacist receive this honor and grateful that he has chosen to build his business and serve patients here in Louisiana. I congratulate T.J. on this outstanding achievement.”

Woodard earned his Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Louisiana at Monroe in 2007 and his Master of Business Administration from Louisiana State University in 2011. He and his wife, Aimee, also a pharmacist, opened their first Prescriptions to Geaux location in downtown Baton Rouge in 2013. Woodard serves on the Board of Directors of the Louisiana Independent Pharmacies Association and on NCPA's Committee on State Legislation and Regulation.

“Community pharmacists are often among the most accessible and trusted health care professionals in the places they serve,” said LDH Secretary Bruce D. Greenstein. “T.J. has demonstrated what that role can mean for a community by combining exceptional service, leadership, and a commitment to making health care easier and more accessible for the people around him. This national recognition is well deserved.”
