Louisiana State Archives—Open House

Louisiana State Archives will host an open house event on Thursday, October 8. The event gives visitors a chance to learn about the work and duties of the staff.

The open house hosts three guided tours, allowing attendees to take a look behind the scenes at how Louisiana state records are managed, how collections are processed, and how artifacts are preserved. Tours will begin at 10:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m., and 6:00 p.m.

Created by the state legislature in 1956 as the official repository for the state’s historical records, the Louisiana State Archives has called many places home since its conception, before opening its current facility in August 1987. Today, the State Archives houses approximately 62,000 cubic feet of historical documents and records of Louisiana's remarkable history.
