On Saturday, September 26, Louisiana State Police Troopers responded to a car crash on Louisiana Highway 131. The single-vehicle crash claimed the life of a 55-year-old Vidalia man.
Investigators say the 2003 Chevrolet Corvette was southbound on Louisiana Highway 131. For reasons still under investigation, the Corvette left the roadway, impacted a fire hydrant and multiple trees, before coming to rest.
The driver, who was not properly restrained, was ejected from the vehicle, sustaining fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The passengers who were restrained received moderate injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
As part of the ongoing investigation, routine toxicology samples were collected for analysis.
Louisiana State Police Troopers remind the public that although not all crashes are survivable, wearing a seat belt drastically decreases the chance of injury or death from a crash. Taking simple precautions, such as wearing a seat belt, following all traffic laws, and adhering to speed limits, increases safety on the road. Ensuring every occupant is properly restrained can often mean the difference between life and death.
