Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser and Volunteer Louisiana announced the opening of the Request for Proposals for 2027-2028 AmeriCorps State Formula grants.
AmeriCorps service offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact in Louisiana communities by addressing critical local needs. Volunteer Louisiana supports hundreds of AmeriCorps Volunteers across the state who serve as tutors, mentors, and in roles combating food insecurity, improving housing conditions, supporting veterans and military families, promoting environmental stewardship, and responding to disasters.
The annual grant competition provides an opportunity for governmental agencies, educational institutions, and nonprofit organizations to develop AmeriCorps programs within their organizations. The grants, administered by Volunteer Louisiana, are funded through the federal AmeriCorps agency and support organizations working to address critical needs in communities across the state.
The Request for Proposal allows organizations to submit an application describing how they would use the funding. The State Formula grant application packet includes information about online review and grant assistance sessions, eligibility requirements, and submission instructions.
“Louisiana has always been a place where people step up to help their neighbors. We are at our best when we take care of each other. AmeriCorps is a great way to put that spirit of service into action,” said Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser. “AmeriCorps volunteers roll up their sleeves to serve Louisiana communities and make a real difference in the lives of others. I encourage organizations across our state to take advantage of this funding and help us strengthen our communities through service.”
Organizations interested in hosting AmeriCorps volunteers, particularly those serving rural parishes or communities not currently served by AmeriCorps State and National programs, are strongly encouraged to apply. New applicants must submit a Notice of Interest to Apply by Sunday, January 3, at 11:59 p.m. The final application deadline is February 28.
