LDH to honor Louisianas in recovery at annual Recovery Month Celebration

The Louisiana Department of Health (LDH)’s Office of Behavioral Health (OBH) will celebrate the strength, resilience, and accomplishments of individuals in recovery, while recognizing the organizations and professionals who help make recovery possible every day, at its annual Recovery Month Celebration.

“Recovery changes lives, but its impact doesn’t stop with one person,” said LDH Secretary Bruce D. Greenstein.

“When people have access to the treatment and support they need to recover, families are stronger, communities are healthier, and more Louisianians have the opportunity to build the lives they want for themselves. Recovery Month is a chance to celebrate that progress while making sure people know that recovery is possible.”

The event is on Friday, September 18, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Capitol Park Museum in Baton Rouge and is free to attend. It is open to individuals in recovery, their families, behavioral health professionals, community organizations, health care providers, and members of the public who wish to learn more about recovery and celebrate the hope and healing taking place across Louisiana.

“Recovery is real, and its impact extends far beyond the individual — it strengthens families and restores hope,” said Holly Howat, assistant secretary of the Office of Behavioral Health.

“This celebration honors the courage of individuals in recovery and recognizes the families, peers, and community members who support them along the way. We want every Louisianian to know that help is available and that no one has to navigate recovery alone.”

The evening’s program will feature inspirational recovery stories, remarks from state and local leaders, recognition of Recovery Month, live entertainment, community partner exhibits, educational resources, museum tours, and opportunities for attendees to connect with organizations that provide prevention, treatment, and recovery support services throughout Louisiana.

National Recovery Month is observed each September to recognize the millions of Americans whose lives have been transformed through recovery from substance use and mental health conditions.

The 2026 National Recovery Month theme, “Recovery is Real: Restoring Every Aspect of Life,” reflects the profound impact recovery can have on every dimension of a person’s life, including health, family relationships, employment, education, housing, and community involvement. Recovery is possible, and with the right support, individuals can rebuild their lives and contribute meaningfully to their families and communities.

The Office of Behavioral Health works to improve the health and well-being of Louisiana residents by promoting prevention, expanding access to high-quality treatment, and strengthening recovery support services.
