Local educators set to reignite passion at NELA Teacher Symposium

As the summer break comes to a close, educators from northeast Louisiana and beyond are gearing up for an opportunity to rejuvenate their teaching spirit at the NELA Teacher Symposium. The conference will be July 16, at the Bayou Point Event Center at the University of Louisiana Monroe.

The symposium, co-founded by former educators Faith Gremillion and Lisa Holyfield, hopes to address the burnout many teachers face. Gremillion says “This event is all about celebrating teachers and bringing value back to the profession."

This year’s event will feature renowned educators Hope and Wade King from Get Your Teach On. The Kings will share their approaches to teaching and lead one of the many sessions planned throughout the day.

In addition to the keynote address, attendees will see presentations from notable figures such as Dr. Cleveland Mouton III, Courtney and Shannon from Edu2020, and Jamie Burgess with Holi Yoga.

New this year is the Community Connection Corner, where local vendors will showcase resources and tools to enhance the teaching experience. Teachers will also have the chance to win exciting prizes, including multiple $1,000 classroom makeovers, sponsored by local businesses eager to invest in the future of education.

Organizers are encouraging early registration. Tickets are priced at $225 and can be purchased through the event's Facebook page, NELA Teacher Symposium, or by contacting Faith Gremillion directly for group registration options.
