Louisiana authorities have issued more than 50 litter citations in a new crackdown effort. Keep Louisiana Beautiful announced the results of the initiative, which was made possible by Act 67 of the 2025 Regular Legislative Session.
The law, authored by Representative John Illg, Jr., expands authority of Louisiana State Park Rangers to enforce litter laws beyond park boundaries, giving them power to address violations across the state. Since the relaunch of the Louisiana Litter Hotline in September 2025, two full-time Litter Enforcement Rangers have investigated reports submitted via the hotline and online platforms, resulting in 50 simple litter citations and 10 gross litter citations for larger illegal dumping cases. Violations range from fast-food waste and cigarette butts tossed from vehicles to household garbage and tires dumped illegally.
Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser praised residents for stepping up to report incidents, emphasizing that community involvement is key to preserving Louisiana’s scenic beauty.
Citizens are encouraged to continue reporting littering and illegal dumping by calling 855-LA-LITTER or visiting Keep Louisiana Beautiful online.
