Federal prosecutors have charged a Missouri man with distributing bomb-making instructional videos on social media, which were allegedly used in a deadly attack that claimed 14 lives in New Orleans on New Year’s Day 2025.

Shamsud-Din Jabbar, identified as the perpetrator of the New Orleans attack, reportedly downloaded the tutorials and placed explosives near the site of his rampage. While the explosives failed to detonate, authorities believe they were consistent with the methods demonstrated in the videos.

Investigators have also linked the bomb-making instructions to a separate explosion that occurred in May in Odessa, Missouri. The individual responsible for creating and sharing the videos now faces charges of distributing explosive-making information and possessing explosives without proper licensing.

If convicted, the accused could face up to 40 years in prison. Authorities continue to investigate the broader implications of the case, including any additional connections to violent incidents.
