Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser and the New Orleans Jazz Museum will present Less is More: The Photography of Steve Rapport, a new exhibition opening Tuesday, April 21, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m, celebrating the power of simplicity.

The exhibition "Less is More" showcases the work of Steve Rapport, whose career has captured legendary figures in rock and popular music, alongside a striking new body of work created since his move to New Orleans. The exhibition marks the first time these two distinct periods of Rapport’s career will be presented together, highlighting both his celebrated past and his renewed artistic vision.

The inspiration of New Orleans musical culture in Preservation Hall led him to return fully to photography, documenting the spirit of the birthplace of Black American music through intimate, minimalist portraiture. "Less is More" emphasizes clarity, emotion, and restraint, inviting audiences to experience music culture through a quieter, more focused visual language.

“Music is at the heart of Louisiana’s heritage. Exhibitions like Less is More show how artists from all over the world continue to find inspiration in New Orleans and help share our story with the world,” said Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser. “It’s important we keep supporting and celebrating the creative voices that celebrate the cultural legacy of our state.”

“To see New Orleans through Steve Rapport’s lens is to experience the music in a completely different way,” said Greg Lambousy, Director of the New Orleans Jazz Museum. “This exhibition captures the spirit of the city’s music culture with remarkable simplicity and depth.”

To celebrate the opening of this exhibit, the New Orleans Jazz Museum will host a live performance by Joshua Starkman & Friends, to connect the visual exhibition to the living musical traditions that continue to define New Orleans. The exhibition opening will take place on Tuesday, April 21, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
