Congresswoman Julia Letlow has received the endorsement of Louisiana Public Service Commissioner Eric Skrmetta in her bid for the U.S. Senate. Skrmetta’s endorsement joins other conservative leaders rallying behind Letlow, who has also been endorsed by former President Donald Trump.

Commissioner Skrmetta praised Letlow for her leadership and commitment to the state’s families and economic priorities.

“Julia Letlow has consistently demonstrated strong, principled leadership,” said Skrmetta in a statement. “She understands how critical affordable, reliable energy is to Louisiana’s economy, and she has never wavered in standing up to federal overreach. Louisiana needs a conservative fighter in the U.S. Senate, and I am proud to support her campaign.”

Earlier in the week Letlow also received the endorsement of Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry. She will face incumbent Senator Bill Cassidy, former Congressman Dr. John Flemming, and Mark Spencer in the Republican primary on May 16.

The Louisiana Legislature implemented Closed-Party Primaries through Act 1 of the 2024 First Extraordinary Session. Act 1 outlines a process for Democrats, Republicans, and No Party voters to select a candidate to represent Louisiana’s two major political parties for certain elected offices.

No Party voters who choose to participate in the Closed-Party Primary will be able to select a party’s ballot at their polling place and must stay with that party through any necessary runoff.

The eventual majority winner of a closed-party primary or primary runoff will advance to the general election to face candidates from other parties.
