Governor Jeff Landry and The Hondo Rodeo Fest announce Angola Prison Rodeo social impact initiative

February 25, 2026 — LOUISIANA — Jeff Landry and The Hondo Rodeo Fest today announced a new social impact initiative in partnership with the Angola Prison Rodeo, a longstanding prison reform program at the Louisiana State Penitentiary.

The Angola Prison Rodeo will be featured during The Hondo Rodeo Fest, set for April 10–12 at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. The exhibition will take place ahead of Hondo’s professional million-dollar rodeo competition.

Since 1965, the Angola Prison Rodeo has provided incarcerated individuals the opportunity to participate in structured competition, earning their place through good behavior and training sessions led by rodeo professionals. Prize money from the exhibition will be divided, with half benefiting Louisiana’s Victims Impact Fund and the remainder supporting inmates’ families.

The Hondo Rodeo Fest is billed as the largest rodeo ever hosted in Louisiana, combining a million-dollar professional rodeo, concert series and street festival. The event is held in partnership with the State of Louisiana, Legends Global, the Louisiana Stadium and Exposition District and the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation.

Tickets start at $45 plus tax and fees and include access to the rodeo, nightly concerts and street fest. Headliners include Jason Aldean, Cody Johnson and Creed, with additional performances by Lynyrd Skynyrd, Old Dominion and Bailey Zimmerman.
