Volunteer Louisiana opens 2026 AmeriCorps grant applications statewide

BATON ROUGE, La. – Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser and Volunteer Louisiana announced the launch of the 2026 AmeriCorps State and National grant competition. The annual Request for Proposal invites governmental agencies, educational institutions, and nonprofit organizations to apply for funding to develop or expand AmeriCorps programs serving communities throughout Louisiana.

“AmeriCorps members embody the very best of Louisiana — neighbors helping neighbors and stepping up wherever the need is greatest,” Nungesser said. “Through Volunteer Louisiana, we are investing in programs that strengthen communities, expand opportunity, and make a lasting difference for families across our state.”

Volunteer Louisiana currently supports nearly 600 AmeriCorps members statewide who serve as tutors and mentors, while also addressing food insecurity, improving housing conditions, supporting veterans and military families, promoting environmental stewardship, and responding to disasters. Organizations serving rural parishes or communities not currently supported by AmeriCorps programs are strongly encouraged to apply.

New applicants must submit a Notice of Interest to Apply by March 1 at 11:59 p.m., ahead of the final application deadline of March 8. Upon successful completion of service, AmeriCorps members receive a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award from the National Service Trust, which may be used toward higher education expenses or qualifying student loans. Additional information and application materials are available at VolunteerLouisiana.gov.
