Old Governor’s Mansion to host history series with Jay Dardenne

BATON ROUGE, La. — Louisiana Secretary of State Nancy Landry announced that the Old Governor’s Mansion will host a four-part public lecture series exploring Louisiana’s political and cultural history, featuring former Lieutenant Governor Jay Dardenne.

Dardenne will open the series with a presentation titled “Jazz, Culture, and the Louisiana Soundtrack: How a Nation Found Its Rhythm” on Thursday, Jan. 22, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Old Governor’s Mansion. The event is free and open to the public.

A longtime public servant, Dardenne brings decades of experience in Louisiana government. He served eight years as Commissioner of Administration, acting as the state’s chief operating officer and chief budget officer. Previously, he was elected twice as Lieutenant Governor and twice as Secretary of State, served 15 years in the Louisiana State Senate, and represented East Baton Rouge Parish as a Metro Councilman for three years.

The History Series aims to highlight the people, events, and cultural influences that have shaped Louisiana’s unique identity, offering the public an opportunity to engage with the state’s rich past in a historic setting.

Admission to the Old Governor’s Mansion is always free. The museum is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and from 12 to 4 p.m. on the first Sunday of each month.
