Louisiana businesses lead the way in litter-free communities

BATON ROUGE, La. – Keep Louisiana Beautiful’s (KLB) Clean Biz Partnership has reached a milestone, with more than 1,000 businesses participating across 49 parishes. Launched in 2023, the program encourages businesses to adopt daily practices that prevent litter and promote a cleaner, greener Louisiana.

“Litter is bad for business and costly to our state,” said Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser. “Louisiana spends $91.4 million annually on litter cleanup. I challenge every business to join the Clean Biz Partnership and help keep our communities clean.”

Participating businesses commit to simple actions such as keeping parking areas tidy, providing trash receptacles, and maintaining clean dumpster areas. Partners also join Love the Boot Week, Louisiana’s largest litter removal initiative, scheduled for April 18–26, 2026.

“KLB’s program shows that small actions make a big difference,” said Susan Russell, KLB Executive Director. “By working together, businesses help improve quality of life and make our communities more welcoming.”

Local businesses emphasize the benefits. Michael Tipton, Louisiana Blue Foundation President, said volunteer cleanup events help improve both community health and employee engagement. Brandon Phares, owner of Sherman’s Glass Inc., added, “A litter-free environment reflects our commitment to quality and our communities.”

The Clean Biz Partnership offers educational workshops, marketing support, and recognition for participating businesses. Membership is free, and businesses can join regardless of chamber affiliation.
