The City of Monroe has officially cut the ribbon on a new flood prevention project. The 20 acre Young's Bayou Retention Pond will help to lessen backwater flooding in Monroe's Booker T. Washington Community.

"It's phase one of a two phase project. Phase two is anywhere between a 40 to 60 acre on for downstream that will also help with building capacity within the city it's just one of many flood mitigation efforts that the city is going through right now", said Monroe Mayor Friday Ellis.

The project was completed in April by the City of Monroe but the ribbon cutting had to wait because access to the site has been limited due to the lack of good access into the area. Phase one of the project is located behind the Chase document facility near the Monroe Airport.
