Monroe man killed in Lasalle Parish crash

Lasalle Parish – On October 15, 2023, at approximately 12:00 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a one-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 127 near Nebo. The crash claimed the life of 49-year-old Roy Houston.

The initial investigation revealed that a 2020 Kia, driven by Houston, was traveling north on Louisiana Highway 127. For reasons still under investigation, Houston’s vehicle left the roadway, traveled down the ditch embankment and struck a tree.

Houston, who was not restrained, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Routine toxicology samples were obtained and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained can often mean the difference between life and death.

In 2023, Troop E has investigated 42 fatal crashes, resulting in 47 deaths.
