The United States Department of Justice (DOJ) has announced a civil investigation into the State of Louisiana and the Louisiana State Police (LSP) regarding allegations of excessive force and discriminatory policing. The investigation is being conducted independently and is of utmost importance to the DOJ.

The DOJ is calling on individuals who have had experiences with the LSP and State Troopers to share their perspectives at a town hall event on May 17th, 2023, at 7 PM CDT. The event will be held at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, on the Library's 7th Floor.

The DOJ is investigating allegations of excessive force by LSP Troopers and discriminatory policing, including on the basis of race. The DOJ is committed to hearing from all individuals who have experienced such behavior and encourages them to share their experiences at the town hall event.

The DOJ's investigation is separate and independent from any other ongoing investigations. Individuals who have already shared their experiences with other organizations or investigators are still encouraged to attend the town hall event.

Members of the DOJ's Civil Rights Division in Washington, D.C., and from the U.S. Attorney's Offices in the Middle, Eastern, and Western Districts of Louisiana will review all information provided at the event. If additional information is needed, individuals may be contacted for follow-up.

To contact the DOJ for more information or to share experiences, please email Community.Louisiana@usdoj.gov or call (202) 353-0684.
