MONROE, LA - The Strauss Theatre Center will hold open auditions for its next musical, The Wedding Singer, on Sunday, February 12 from 4 - 8 p.m. and on Monday, February 13 from 6 - 8 p.m. As a community theatre, Strauss encourages anyone who is interested in acting, singing or dancing to audition, no matter their experience or background. Auditions will be held at the facilities of our friends at Strauss Youth Academy for the Arts (SYAA), which is located behind the Strauss Theatre Center at 1300 Lamy Lane in Monroe.

“This is a large ensemble cast and we welcome people of all walks of life to come audition! Even if you have never been part of a cast before, we are here to help and show you why volunteering as part of the community theatre is a lot of fun,” said Greg Baccarini, director of The Wedding Singer.

To audition, community members must be at least 17 years old and show up to only one of the audition nights. Please be prepared to sing a short song in the style of the show or your favorite 80s tune. If possible, bring piano sheet music, as an accompanist will be provided. You may be asked to read from the script or learn a short dance combination to demonstrate movement ability. Please bring comfortable clothes and shoes.

If necessary, callbacks will be Monday, February 13 from 8 - 9:30 p.m. The Wedding Singer rehearsals will begin on or around March 1 and performances will be April 20-23 and April 27-29.

“There are featured roles like rockstar wannabe Robbie Hart, everyone’s favorite wedding singer. But there are also ensemble roles for people who want to simply sing and dance and support the featured roles,” said Baccarini. “I’m excited to see a lot of new faces at Strauss.”
