The Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana partnering with the Boy Scouts of America for the the 35th Annual Scouting for Food drive happening on Saturday, November 12.

Scouting for Food is the largest single day food drive in the region that involves local Boy Scout troops distributing and collecting food donations from resident’s homes.

Local Boy Scout troops will distribute empty bags in neighborhoods across the community on Saturday, November 5. Residents are asked to fill those bags with non-perishable food items they want to donate to the Food Bank and place them outside their front door by 8 a.m. on Saturday, November 12, to be picked up by the scouts.

Residents who do not receive a Boy Scout bag are asked to bring food donations Saturday, November 12th between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. to The Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana at 4600 Central Avenue in Monroe, or Christ Church at 208 Lincoln Street in West Monroe

Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana Executive Director Jean Toth said donations collected from the food drive will help stock the Food Bank’s shelves for the upcoming holiday season.

“Many families and seniors in our community who are struggling turn to us for help during the holidays,” said Toth. “We’re asking for everyone to participate this year to help ensure our neighbors have a warm meal during the holidays.”

The most needed items are soups, meals, and proteins in a can, as well as plastic jars of peanut butter. Any non-perishable food items are gladly accepted. Residents who would like to help but can’t donate food can make a monetary donation online at foodbanknela.org/donate.
