Department of Corrections Announces New Warden

The Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections has promoted a deputy warden to lead Elayn Hunt Correctional Center (EHCC). Donnie Bordelon has been named Warden.

"I am confident that Warden Bordelon is the right fit to be the next leader of Elayn Hunt Correctional Center, said Jimmy Le Blanc, secretary, Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections. "He brings a wealth of knowledge and operational experience to the position and his leadership vision for the facility aligns with our departmentwide efforts to prepare the incarcerated population for successful reentry through the expansion of educational, vocational and rehabilitative programs and services."

Bordelon began his career in the Department of Corrections in 2001 as a corrections Sergeant at Avoyelles Correctional Center (AVC), now known as Raymond Laborde Correctional Center. He moved to J. Levy Dabadie Correctional Center (JLDCC) in 2005, where he served as a corrections Lieutenant and corrections Captain. He transferred back to AVC when the decision was made to close JLDCC in 2012 and has worked his way up the security ranks at that facility, where he has most recently served as Deputy Warden since 2019. Warden Bordelon brings nearly 21 years of correctional experience to his new role.

Bordelon is also a Veteran, serving in the Louisiana National Guard from 2012 to 2020, when he was honorably discharged. He had one tour of duty in 2013. In support of Operation Enduring Freedom, he deployed to Kuwait with the 922nd Horizontal Engineer Company.

"I am humbled and grateful for the confidence Secretary Le Blanc has in me to lead Elayn Hunt Correctional Center," said Donnie Bordelon, warden, Elayn Hunt Correctional Center. "I am excited about this opportunity and am committed to the ongoing implementation of criminal justice reforms and expansion of treatment and programming, and the continuation of Secretary Le Blanc's vision for preparing people for successful reentry."

Bordelon replaces EHCC Warden Kirt Guerin, who recently retired. He assumes command of the prison Monday, August 22, 2022.
