New Orleans police and Tulane University say a former contract worker at the university was shot as he attempted to drive over campus officers who were trying to arrest him.

The university says it happened as campus police were investigating the former employee's presence on campus Friday afternoon.

A Tulane spokesman says the man was wanted on charges of indecent exposure and trespass. A university news release says as campus officers attempted to arrest him, he fled in his vehicle and tried to strike the arresting officers, who fired their weapons. The suspect, whose name was not released, drove a few blocks away before crashing his car.

New Orleans police say the suspect was shot, but his condition was not immediately clear.

The suspect is currently in custody.
